Archaic Wall Remains
The city walls, thought to have been built between 590 and 580 BC, are among the ruins from the Archaic period unearthed during the recent excavations carried out in Foça.
These city walls located on the top of Maltepe Tumulus are 5 km long and are also known as Herodotus Walls because they are mentioned in history as the walls mentioned by Herodotus. It is assumed that the 4 km wide structure next to the wall is the gate of the city. The towers on both sides of the gate were charred day by day as a result of the fires.
The Archaic Wall and the City Gate are located in a magnificent location in the city center of Foça, where you can see the coastline, and are among the historical sites within walking distance.
